A MOVIE focusing on modern-day Britain and those who end up in the social welfare system will be screened by Leigh Film Society.
The award-winning I, Daniel Blake, directed by Ken Loach, will be shown at Leigh Parish Church at 7.30pm on Friday, January 13, in association with campaigning group Momentum and the Unite union.
The screening is free to all but donations will be welcomed.
The film tells the story of Daniel, who needs help from the state for the first time having worked as a joiner for most of his life in Newcastle.
He crosses paths with single mother Katie and her two young children Daisy and Dylan.
A flat in a city she does not know, some 300 miles away, offers Katie her only chance of escaping a one-roomed homeless hostel in London.
Daniel and Katie find themselves in no man's land, caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy played out against the rhetoric of 'striver and skiver' in modern-day Britain.
You can get your free tickets on the door on the night, providing there are tickets left.
