A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of theft and seriously assaulting an officer after an early morning police chase.
The incident occurred shortly before 4am on Friday, after officers spotted a Mercedes sports car driving at speed on the East Lancashire Road.
The pursuit came to an end on Arrow Street, Leigh, where a 28-year-old man was arrested after a significant struggle against the police.
The man was been taken to hospital for treatment following his arrest and one of the officers involved in the incident was also taken to hospital after sustaining a broken wrist.
He has since been released on bail until December 3 pending further enquiries.
A taser was used during the incident.
