A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after a car crashed into a lamppost and garden wall in Leigh last night, Thursday.
Firefighters were sent to St Helens Road at around 10.40pm after a Ford Mondeo lost control and collided with a lamppost and a wall.
It is thought the driver, a 50-year-old man, suffered a medical episode.
Crews gave the man first aid before paramedics arrived at the scene.
The North West Ambulance Service confirmed a man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “At 10.38pm on Thursday, March 11, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on St Helens Road in Leigh.
"Two fire engines from Leigh and Atherton stations, alongside the technical response unit from Leigh, quickly attended the incident.
“Fire crews made the area safe and administered first aid to one casualty, who was then conveyed to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.
“Firefighters were in attendance for approximately 25 minutes.”
Greater Manchester Police say enquiries are ongoing.
