TYLDESLEY Little Theatre company, fresh from celebrating big wins at the recent Greater Manchester Drama Awards, are looking forward to an exciting new season.
Two productions, ‘Dead Guilty’, directed by Paul ward, and ‘Robinson Crusoe & the Pirates', directed by Ian Taylor, managed to produce a fantastic nine nominations and five wins between them.
They were judged the Lowry Trophy Best Production Runner Up, Joyce Elder as Best Supporting Actress and Paul Ward as Best Director for ‘Dead Guilty’ and Best Costume & Design and Rosie Hynes for Best Choreography for ‘Robinson Crusoe’.
And since the success came from a thriller and a panto, it comes as no surprise that the first two shows of the new season will be…a thriller and a panto!
‘And Then There Were None' runs from October 4-8.
Forget Marple and Poirot, legendary crimewriter Agatha Christie’s most fiendishly clever whodunit is a stand alone thriller that not only set the standards for all old dark house thrillers, but also established a classy template for contemporary ‘body count’ horror films. A bona fide classic of the genre directed by Ian Taylor, the man who knows and loves it!
Next is ‘Cinderella’ by Alan P Frayn, running from December 3-10, excluding Monday and Thursday.
TLT’s chair Jenny Whur bravely steps into the breach as the society’s sixth panto director.
Third up being staged from January 31- February 4 next year is ‘Caramba’s Revenge’ by William Norfolk.
Four elderly ladies enjoy life sharing a house and pooling their pensions. When Violet dies, who says the other shouldn’t continue enjoying their late friend’s pension? After all, it’s what she'd have wanted! As long as nobody starts snooping around…oh dear! The best laid plans… Veteran director Mike Jeffries returns to TLT for the first time in several years.
Next comes ‘The Reunion’ by Peter Gordon (March20-24).
Touching, yet at times hilarious, this examination of faded dreams and flimsy facades focuses on a college reunion that begins badly and goes downhill from there.
A joyous mixture of humour and pathos from Lisa Taylor, the director of the award-winning one act play, ‘Last Tango in Little Grimley.’ The show runs from May 15-19.
Finally, award winning actress Andrea Peters directs ‘Building Blocks’ by Bob Larbey, writer of the legendary sit-com, ‘The Good Life’. Hilarious yet emotive scenes ensue during the building of a house extention.
