HATFIELD Peter Geoffrey Peter Geoffrey Hatfield, age 76, died peacefully in hospital with family by his side on Sunday 26th November 2023. Beloved husband to the late Doreen, loving father to Kath and Rob, and Grandad to Millie and Brooke. A cherished father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many. Peter was born in 1947 to George and Alice. As a lifelong Lowton resident, he worked for Wigan Council for over 40 years and had an unmatched appreciation for local history. An avid badminton player in his youth, he ran the Golborne Community Badminton club for many years. He loved Scotland and exploring the highlands in his campervan in his later years. He enjoyed gardening, reading, steam trains, and a cup of tea with friends old and new. He was so grateful to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for his second chance after having a heart transplant in 2014, and he graciously donated his time back to the medical profession by sharing his story with students and visiting other heart transplant patients. Peter's funeral service will take place at Lowton St. Mary's Church on Friday 15th December 2023 at 11am. Family flowers only. Donations can be made in Peter's memory to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).Your tribute has been received.
