THE 2013 Leigh Games takes place in just a few weeks’ time.

It promises to be a fantastic event for all the family, with a day for primary schoolchildren on Monday, July 1 and a second day for high school students on Tuesday, July 2.

Both days take place at Leigh Sports Village and everyone is invited to go along and make the sporting spectacular an event to remember.

As the official media partner for the games, the Leigh Journal is this week launching two schools competitions and we want as many pupils to enter as possible.

1. Design a winner’s medal We want pupils to design a winner’s medal.

It can be any shape or colour, may or may not include a ribbon, tie etc. There are no restrictions, your design just needs to be drawn or painted on no more than one A5 sheet of paper.

2. Who has inspired you?

The 2012 Olympics and Paralympics created a lasting legacy not only for London but for the whole country and the athletes who took part have proved to be a great inspiration for sporting stars of the future.

Now we want to know who has inspired you.

It could be someone famous, for example an Olympian, footballer, politician dancer or actor or simply someone special who you know. Your entries need to be no more than 200 words.

Both the winner and runner up in each category will have their work published with their photograph in the Journal.

There are two age groups: aged five to nine, and aged 10 to 14.

The age of the pupils will be taken into account when choosing the winners.

The winners will also receive a prize for their school – 2,500 Morrisons Let’s Grow vouchers to spend on gardening or cooking equipment, as well as a prize for the pupil themselves.

The closing date for entries is Monday, June 24. You can submit entries by email to newsdesk@nqnw.co.uk or post them to The Editor, Leigh Journal, c/o The Academy, 138 Bridge Street, Warrington, WA1 2RU.

Please ensure you have included relevant contact details and also the name and age of the pupil and their school with their entry.

Usual Newsquest competition rules apply. For full terms and conditions, visit newsquest.co.uk/terms The editor’s decision is final.

We are also on the lookout for budding young reporters who would like to write a short report (about 200 words) for the Leigh Journal about their day at the Games. If any schools would be interested in this, please email newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk Send us your good luck messages: We want to receive your good luck messages for the Leigh Games. Maybe you are a teacher who wants to show your support for your pupils, or a parent or relative of a child taking part in an event.
