Olympic gold medalist Jason Gardener, who now runs his own sports consultancy business, helped to motivate pupils at the high school inclusion event. He said: “I am a school sports ambassador so spend a lot of time travelling and giving something back.
“I am a product of school sport. My journey started like these children, having teachers who took us to events like this and representing my school.
“Seeing what it was like for Daley Thompson at the 1984 games made me want to push myself and compete professionally.
“It’s about making the most of the opportunities you have been given and going out there and competing.
“It’s a cliche but if I can help to inspire children like those here today, then it is all worthwhile and that makes me extremely happy.”
