A HISTORIAN is looking for people with relatives that nursed the injured or drove ambulances in the First World War.
Sue Robinson runs a not-for-profit company called Roses of No Man’s Land, the name given to nurses and Red Cross VADs (voluntary aid detachment), that is hosting an event to remember those that served in the Great War.
A group of women called Wenches in Trenches are walking from Poperinge to the Menin Gate in Ypres in September dressed as First World War nurses, each in memory of a particular nurse.
They would like people from Leigh and the surrounding area to get in touch if they had a relative they would like the group to lay a wreath for.
Sue said: “We have raised in the region of £45,000 in the last few years for military charities but this year we want to raise £10,000 to pay for a memorial to the brave women near to the Passchendaele battlefields in Belgium.”
