TWO adult learning groups have completed a research project about the to commemorate the borough’s heritage during the First World War.
The groups from Basic Education and Training for Adults (BETA) researched different aspects of daily life in the borough during the Great War and created a sensory exhibition using real and replica memorabilia.
The interactive exhibition allowed people to experience the smell, taste and sounds of the Great War.
Leigh-based housing provider Adactus Housing Association awarded BETA money from their neighbourhood fund to purchase some of the memorabilia to be used in the exhibition.
Eileen Walsh from BETA said: “We would like to thank Adactus for the grant.
“The project has been a huge success. We’ve been able to share local people’s experiences of the war and also provide a learning opportunity to the public.’’ BETA is a small charity based in Wigan that is committed to supporting adults and providing basic education.
Lindsay Ogden, Neighbourhood Development Officer at Adactus said: “It is fantastic we have been able to support this project.
“It has provided local people with the opportunity to experience what life was like during World War I.”
