NEW Commonwealth welterweight boxing champion Ali Nuumbembe surprised locals at the Talbot pub in Atherton.
Ali - known as the Silent Assassin - visited the pub run by two of his supporters Donald and Paula Hanson. And he took with him his coveted Commonwealth belt.
The Namibian won the belt last month when he beat Scotland's Kevin Anderson. He next faces challenger Matt Hatton, brother of world champ Ricky.
Ali remained in Britain after winning a bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and featured in a television documentary when he set up home in a caravan. Landlord Donald was one of the fans who sponsored Ali to enable him to stay in the UK.
