A RUGBY league player has been arrested on suspicion of theft and seriously assaulting a police officer.
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are investigating after their player Scott Moore was involved in a police chase on Friday morning.
The incident occurred shortly before 4am after officers spotted a Mercedes sports car driving at speed on the East Lancashire Road.
The pursuit came to an end on Arrow Street, Leigh, where the 28-year-old was arrested after a significant struggle resulting in an officer sustaining a broken wrist.
He was then taken to hospital for treatment following his arrest and has since been released on police bail until December 3.
A club spokesman said: “The club has been made aware over the weekend of an incident that occurred on early Friday morning involving our player Scott Moore.
“Having spoken to Scott briefly over the weekend, the club has opened an investigation into the matter, and await further reports from the police.
“There will be no further comment at this time.”
Police confirmed a taser was used during the incident.
