PRIMARY school pupils have been given a lesson of the dangers of a building site by a homebuilder.

Countryside staff visited children at Meadowbank Primary School and Children’s Centre in Atherton ahead of the school holidays to educate them about the health and safety risks at a live building site with the use of demonstrations and props.

It was part of the homebuilder’s community initiative to engage with residents as it is in the process of building the new 123-home development at Hamilton Square on Gloucester Street.

Head teacher of the Formby Avenue school Nichola Hill said: “Children can easily be drawn into dangerous situations as curiosity can often get the best of them.

“We are grateful for Countryside’s visit to the school and that they highlighted the potential hazards that can occur when playing near building sites.”

There will be 64 three-bedroom homes available to buy and 59 homes to rent privately at the Hamilton Square site.

Regional health and safety manager at Countryside Colin Murray added: “We want the community to have peace of mind when it comes to their families, and be reassured that we take the safety of local children very seriously.”
