THIS photograph shows a large crowd gathered for the opening ceremony of the former Leigh Technical School at the entrance on Railway Road.
It was opened on September 26, 1894 by the 16th Earl of Derby.
A 1932 student handbook states that there were extensions to the building in 1904 and 1914.
It was granted the status of a college from 1926.
The technical college site closed in 2010.
