A CARE service which supports people in their own homes has been given a boost after its latest inspection.

Ashwood Care Service, based on Lord Street in Leigh, was given a rating of "requires improvement" after a visit by healthcare regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), last year.

But after returning to monitor the service on three days from August 20 to 22, the CQC has boosted its ranking to "good" in all areas.

The report said: "People were supported in a friendly and respectful way.

"Staff promoted people's independence and treated them with dignity and respect.

People were involved in making decisions about their care and involved in reviews to ensure their care plans met their needs and supported them to achieve outcomes.

"Staff supported some people to access the community.

"People's care plans were person-centred, and outcome focussed and provided staff with the information they needed to provide care and support in a way that met people's needs and preferences.

"There was evidence that care plans were reviewed regularly or as people's needs changed."

The service cares for residents in Butts Bridge, Westleigh, Pennington and on Wigan Road and Plank Lane.

It also received the Bronze and Silver Progress for Wigan Ethical Homecare Providers Award from Wigan Council in July.

Manager Carolyn Jeffery said: “We are very happy to have received this rating and to be recognised for the good service our well-being teams provide in our community.

"There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make our service what it is."
