Organiser, Rev Alan Saunders, Vicar of Christ Church, said: “It was wonderful to see students from our three local high schools getting along so well and making such fabulous music together.
"The day went better than I dared dream with 137 students learning about the history and impact of Gospel music and being given a unique opportunity to perform with such gifted artists.
“At Christ Church we hope to build on the success of the day with future events and an opportunity to join our church-based Soul Children Gospel Choir.
"Our vision is to build a Leigh-wide youth Gospel choir that will showcase the talents of young people and be a credit to the town.
"I would like to give a Huge thanks to the school staff and the church team of staff and volunteers for making this such a memorial and educational day for all the young people.”
The event was made possible due to a generous donation from a private donor and supported by Soul Children UK in partnership with Scripture Union.
Youngsters aged between 10 and 16 can join the church’s gospel choir, which meets every Friday from 7pm to 8:30pm in Church House at Christ Church.
