A BRAND new Aldi supermarket will open in Tyldesley next month, to be opened by Team GB Bronze medallist Anyika Onoura.

Opening up on Shuttle Street, the new store will replace the existing store on Castle Street and will be run by Store Manager Alison Tsoi along with a team of 26 colleagues from the local community.

As the value-for-money supermarket has been fuelling Team GB since 2015, Alison Tsoi and the Tyldesley team will be joined by Anyika to celebrate the store opening and cut the all-important ribbon on Thursday, December 16.

Alison Tsoi said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Tyldesley. It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Anyika Onoura join us will make it a morning to remember.”

With Team GB's partnership with the supermarket, a number of Olympians have opened new stores across the country and encourage residents to shop at Aldi for their fresh produce.

Anyika, from Liverpool, competed in the 100, 200 and 400 metres for Team GB, as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 metre relay. She won a bronze medal for the 4x400 metre relay at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, and took home gold in the 4x100 metre relay at the 2014 European Athletics Championships.

Track and Field star Anyika stated: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store, it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB.”

As part of Aldi’s investment in local communities across the UK, the new store will offer more customers access to Aldi’s high quality, low-price products, which includes fresh British meat products, the customer favourite 'Specially Selected' range, weekly offers and 'Specialbuys' - offering great value for money on products from electrical items to garden tools.

With a focus on the local community, the new Aldi store is also calling on local charities and food banks in Tyldesley to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods seven days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store is encouraged to email aldi@neighbourly.com.

The new store will be located on Shuttle Street, Tyldesley, M29 8AW and will be open from 8am-10pm from Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
