A MUM-OF-THREE is on track to becoming the next female motorsport champion after being named among the finalists hoping to compete in a televised competition.
Passionate about motor racing, Vikki Campbell, from Atherton, entered the 'Formula Woman' competition in April 2021 after seeing it advertised on social media.
The re-launched competition, which began back in 2004, aims to give women of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to get into motorsport and compete against their male counterparts in the prestigious GT Cup Championship.
Over 800 women from around the world signed up to the competition, and after impressing in a handful of on-track assessments, Vikki was selected in the 50 finalists who may go on to race in the Formula 1 backed event later this year.
As Vikki awaits final instructions about the GT Championships, the NHS worker has been busy practicing in her trusty Mini Cooper at the Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan as well as using a racing simulator and maintaining her fitness.
Describing herself as an "adrenaline junkie", Vikki said: "I’ve always had and loved fast cars, bikes and any type of motorsport. My husband races a R53 Mini Cooper and I have my own track Mini that I will be practicing in - so motorsport is our passion as a family."
If Vikki advances into the final six contestants, she will race in the GT Cup Championship, racing a Mclaren 570s race cars at Donnington Park Circuit on April 9.
The winning ladies will also be provided with a McLaren GT4 race car and will receive further training before taking to the track at the Championships.
Vikki added: "I’d love to promote, encourage and inspire other women to take part in motorsport.
"I get lots of messages of support and encouragement from ladies that feel or have felt too old to pursue their motorsport dreams.
"It’s these ladies that have helped me so much to keep driving forward and keep focused. [...] Hopefully [I can] empower and inspire others to want to chase their dreams."
