THERE are flood alerts in place for parts of Leigh and surrounding areas today as heavy downpours fall.
Water levels have been forecast to rise on the River Glaze due to heavy rainfall.
Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Glaze, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around Moss, Hey, Bedford and Borsdane Brooks and their tributaries.
Other locations which may be affected are Leigh, Tyldesley, Hindley, Westhoughton, Atherton, Worsley, Walkden and east Wigan.
Golborne is also expexted to be affected as levels rise in the River Sankey.
The area has also seen heavy winds, with gusts of up to 50mph.
