A FUNDRAISING concert in Atherton will raise "very necessary" funds for Ukrainian refugees and highlight the area's continued support for those affected by war.
Taking place at Atherton Scout headquarters on Leigh Road, the event will be split into two halves; with one dedicated towards a defiant anti-war message and the second creating an atmosphere of love and positivity.
Beginning at 5pm on Saturday, April 23, the concert will start with musicians - including local legend Bram Taylor - singing powerful anti-war songs, as well as resistance poems being read in a similar vein.
The second half of the concert will then see local Beatles tribute band 'Get Back' performing a collection of the famous foursomes love-infused, upbeat and positive tunes.
Asking for donations from guests, the night's proceeds will go directly towards Mercy Projects' war-relief effort in Ukraine.
Founded in 1980, US-based Mercy Projects have spent more than 30 years supporting the people of Ukraine and other Eastern European countries, often providing summer camps, activities and support for disadvantaged children and families.
At present, the charity has six minibuses inside Ukraine that have been delivering essential supplies and evacuating people out of war-torn areas.
Stan Smith, church minister at New Beginnings Church in Atherton and trustee at Mercy Projects, said that money raised from the event will go directly to helping refugees inside Ukraine.
Stan said: "Mercy Projects have more than 30 years of history supporting Ukraine, and they currently have six minibuses that have been delivering essential supplies and evacuating people out of war-torn areas.
"Areas have been devastated over there so it is still very necessary for financial support."
Hoping to maintain awareness of how the people of Ukraine are still in great need of outside assistance, Stan is confident that the night will have a "great turnout" and instill a determination to continue the anti-war effort.
