FOLLOWING an unorthodox passion has led a local man to be at the forefront of extreme weather patterns across the globe.
With an interest in tropical cyclones and extreme weather patterns, Nathan Foy created 'Force Thirteen' as a Youtube channel back in 2011, aged 16.
What started as an "experiment" to test his data and visualisation skills, Force Thirteen has developed into a phenomenon that has stretched to all corners of the globe.
Building a team of fellow international volunteers - and fellow geology enthusiasts - Nathan has clocked up more than 80,000 Youtube subscribers from his home office in Westleigh.
Using up-to-date information from global news outlets and satellite imagery, Nathan and the team research, report, and predict extreme weather patterns happening around the world, particularly during hurricane seasons.
In some cases, Nathan has been told that Force Thirteen's work has been vital in covering weather patterns in remote locations which do not get much coverage in conventional news cycles.
With 'Force Thirteen' gradually growing its worldwide influence, Nathan was able to make the project a business and full-time occupation in 2020.
Nathan, now 27, said: "Force Thirteen started as an experiment to try out my skills at animation and visualisation, but it has ended up being something I'm really good at.
"My knowledge has grown a lot over the years and a global community has gradually began to form around me.
"I had anxiety issues growing up so to see Force Thirteen having a worldwide influence is amazing.
"It is really rewarding when you take a step back and reflect on how far it's come."
