A FORMER teacher from Golborne is raffling off his house so he can move back to the North West.
Declan Garrett, 38, a former teacher at Cardinal Newman in Warrington, moved to Weston-super-Mare in 2020.
Along with his three children, he moved to the town near Bristol in order to live with Leoni-fay, a woman who he met online.
With Leoni-fay having four children of her own, the pair eloped to Gretna Green in Scotland to get married - taking their seven children with them.
However, due to the cost of living in Weston-Super-Mare, the Golborne teacher and his family now wish to move back to the North West in a house large enough for the nine-strong family.
In order to sell the family's current home, Declan is raffling it off - with entries being just £3 each.
Declan said: "If we sell enough tickets someone will get our house and we get 90 per cent of the ticket sales to pay off the mortgage and get a new place.
"If we don’t sell enough tickets someone will still win and they get 75 per cent of the ticket sales and we retain the house."
Declan and Leoni-fay did lots of research and decided that raffling their house is a 'no loss' way of trying to improve their situation.
Despite having around £150,000 in collateral, the couple is adversely affected by mortgage checks due to having seven children - so raising funds through a raffle seemed a good course of action for the large family.
Tickets for the raffle begin at £3 each, and the raffle itself closes on Friday, October 21.
