A COLLECTION of Leigh businesses have teamed up to make sure that no child goes hungry over Christmas.

Aware of the financial difficulties during Christmastime and the cost of living crisis, Leigh Means Business have organised the campaign to help struggling families in the town.

Receiving funding from Leigh Rotary Club at a 'dragons den' style event, the collection of business owners have used the money to build a 'Kids Eat Free' website and promote the offer throughout Leigh.

Supported by a host of local businesses, the project has been completed with the help of apprentices and students from Wigan and Leigh College, particularly with regard to the website and promotional material.

Steven Tomlinson, director of Leigh Means Business, said: “It is brilliant to see everyone working together to make this happen.

"This project doesn't just benefit families in need, but it also helps our struggling local businesses and has been a great experience for the talented young people in our town.

"A lot of the eateries in Leigh were already offering free meals so it’s been great to shine a light on the amazing work already being done by our business community.”

While lending an extra hand to those struggling to afford food, the project is also hoped to be a boost to high street businesses who have been struggling through the cost of living crisis.

The 'Kids Eat Free' offer will be available to those eligible for free school meals during term time, and any other family struggling for money over Christmas.

You can find out more about the deals on offer at the Kids Eat Free website here.
