A MUM and dad were unable to go to work or take their daughter to childcare last week after a shattering hit and run on their parked cars.

At around 10.30pm on Monday, January 30, a loud crash was heard outside Vanessa Mellor's home on Wigan Road, Atherton.

Upon leaving the house, mum-of-one Vanessa found significant damage to the side of her Nissan Quashai as well as damage to the side of her partner's Renault Kadjar.

The colliding vehicle, which is believed to be a large white recovery truck, is reported to have driven away down Wigan Road and turned left onto Durban Street.

The incident caused such damage to Vanessa's vehicle that it had to be written off as the passenger door was ripped from its hinges, and Wigan Council was also called to the address to help clear the debris.

A week later, Vanessa's partner's car is still in repair.

Experiencing delays for a courtesy car from her insurance company, the incident left the parents unable to go to work and unable to take their 13-month-old daughter to childcare.

Under the Road Traffic Act, it is a legal requirement for drivers to stop and provide their details if they collide with another vehicle.

After reporting the incident to the police last week, the mum-of-one has been appealing for information following a lack of progress in the investigation.

Left with increased insurance bills after the hit and run, the couple hopes residents can come forward with any information to help with insurance and damage costs, and find the driver responsible.

Greater Manchester Police are reported to have passed the incident over to the Roads Policing Unit to try and identify the driver responsible.
