THIS wonderful picture of workers on their last day at Ward & Golsdstone factory in Hindsford in the early 1980s certainly generated a lot of feedback from Journal readers.
The photograph, which we found in the local archives, was taken on the last day for 77 workers at Ward & Goldstone Factory, in Hindsford, Atherton on September 11, 1980.
Many readers shared their fond memories of the factory via social media upon seeing the photograph.
Among them, Joanne Kershaw said: "I had the pleasure of working with a lot of these ladies over the years, some of the best days of my life, laughed all day xx".
Keith Paxford added: "My aunties Jean Gregory and Alice Cronin worked there, they both went to Hindley Green, they both retired from there, they both said the Hindsford days were the best, I can remember going to children’s Xmas parties in The canteen at Hindsford, my partners grandad Teddy Shone also worked there. I think he was a fitter."
Meanwhile, Philip David Booth wrote: "Last day for some of the women at the W&G factory in Hindsford before they moved to Hindley Green. Last section left at Hindsford. Fantastic bunch of women. I worked with some of them for 13 years in various roles."
