WITH this Saturday bringing the Coronation of King Charles III we thought we would take a look at the last time Leigh celebrated the crowning of a monarch.
Here is a group photograph we have found in the local archives, which shows a party held for the Coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth II from 1953.
The late Queen's Coronation ceremony took place on June 2, 1953.
Of course she would go on to become this country's longest-ever reigning monarch, sitting on the throne for 70 years, surpassing the record of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
This group photo shows a party celebrating the event, which was taken on Clarence Street, in Bedford, Leigh.
No doubt many residents will be holding street parties and similar events again as the late Queen's son Charles is formally crowned on Saturday.
