AN amateur boxing club that constantly punches above its weight has had two more of its young athletes winning gold at major championships.

Dedicated to training athletes to an elite level while also providing opportunities to everyone in the community, Leigh Boxing and Fitness Gym have celebrated multiple championship wins over the years and had 12 professional athletes coming out of its Scott Street hub, just off Wigan Road.

Developing a highly-regarded reputation over the past 22 years, two of the boxing club's recent cohort of champions are 20-year-old Paddy Hewitt and 18-year-old Eloise Edwards.

High flyer Paddy, who has already won three national championships and a European gold, brought home a second consecutive gold while fighting for Team GB in Spain last month.

Eloise, another boxing starlet from Leigh, was crowned British Champion for the second time this weekend, after representing England in the Tri-Nations Championships in Scotland.

The boxing club, which seems a breeding ground for champions, has also had 13-year-old member Olivia Mills selected for the England Talent Pathway, who will shortly train for her country's youth set-up in Sheffield and Leeds.

Adrian Fleming, who has been the head coach at Team Leigh for the past 20 years, said: "Both [Paddy and Eloise] are ultimate professionals in the way they train and prepare, and are always a pleasure to work with.

"They are ultimate role models for all the Leigh boxers at Leigh Boxing & Fitness Community Gym.

"Olivia, who attends Bedford High School, trains hard, listens, and looks to be an outstanding talent for the future."

With so much success coming out of the Scott Street gym over the years, Adrian has been recognised for this and has been selected as the coach for England's Elite Senior Tri Nations team, as well as for the England Womens Aspire team and the England Schools squad.

Despite having much more on his plate, the coach said that the community club is always on the lookout for more athletes who can follow in the successful footsteps of those at Leigh Boxing and Fitness Gym.
