A MAN was detained and taken to hospital following an incident that brought a busy Leigh road to a standstill.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and the fire service were called to St Helens Road on Saturday, June 3, at around 2pm.
It was reported that a man was on the roof of a property on St Helens Road, and throwing objects down below.
Residents reported a heavy police presence on St Helens Road and a disruption to traffic.
With two fire engines in attendance, firefighters spent around two hours at the scene and were able to safely bring the man down using a nine-metre ladder.
Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that the man was taken to hospital following the incident and detained under the Mental Health Act.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a male throwing objects off the roof of a building on St Helen’s Road, Leigh, on Saturday 3 June 2023 at around 2.14pm.
"Colleagues from NWAS and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service also attended.
"The man was taken to A&E as a precaution but suffered no serious injuries."
