THE former Wilko store in Leigh will reopen as a Poundland this Saturday.
After announcing it had secured agreement with administrator PwC to take an option on a number of Wilko store leases, Poundland today confirmed the Wilko in Leigh would begin its journey to becoming a Poundland this Saturday, September 30.
The former Wilko store on Lord Street, Leigh, WN7 1AB will open on Saturday morning, with customers able to find a range of Poundland favourites in store alongside any existing clearance items from its time as a Wilko.
Leigh is one of a small number of locations where Poundland has an existing store close by but the former Wilko can, in time, accommodate significantly wider ranges.
Poundland will therefore relocate into the Wilko store and still expects to recruit a number of former Wilko colleagues to its growing Leigh team.
Poundland retail director Darren Kay said: “We’re pleased to be able to re-open so quickly in Leigh – not least because our ambition is to provide job opportunities for former Wilko colleagues.
“It will be a little while before we’re in a position to offer our fullest ranges in the store, but we know customers will in time appreciate the wider range we’ll be able to provide in our new home.
“We’d encourage customers old and new to come and say hello to their growing Poundland team from this coming Saturday.”
Poundland intends to carry out a full makeover of the Leigh store in 2024 so it can become a fully operational Poundland.
