A SPECIAL fundraising event is set to take place at Leigh Miners next week in honour of Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
Like many hospices around the UK, Wigan & Leigh Hospice has had difficulties trying to navigate through the cost of living crisis in recent times, with an estimated deficit of £1million.
Caring for patients for the past 40 years, the hospice needs to raise around £12,000 every day just to keep its services going, a target that has become increasingly difficult to meet following the pandemic, cost of living crisis, and a drop in donations.
With two-thirds of its funding generated through its charity shops, lottery, and fundraising, Leigh Miner's has teamed up with 8 week events to organise a special fundraising event for the vital hospice.

To celebrate 40 years of the hospice and raise vital funds,'Bingo with a Twist' will take place at the rugby club's Welfare Institute on Friday, November 17.
From Abba to Led Zeppelin, the event is planned to showcase a variety of musical hits in the format of a classic bingo night, and has been supported with a host of local businesses.
Yasmin Wilding, Events Manager at 8 week events, said: "With Leigh Miners Welfare Institute situated in the heart of Leigh, they vastly contribute towards charitable and fundraising efforts - including enriching the lives those involved in their local community, and being a hub for raising charitable funds in the borough.
"8 week events is proud to collaborate with the Miners because of their successful history of completing many events for charity.
"With the venue being a charity itself, it is really important to Leigh Miners to continue engaging and supporting the Leigh community, with the event aiming to fundraise as much money as possible to support the fantastic work the hospice does in the local community."
All money raised on the evening will return directly to the hospice, with contributions to support the invaluable work of their staff, volunteers, and those who access their services.
