RESIDENTS are being warned that more unpleasant weather is on the way.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and downpours in north west England through the arrival of Storm Fergus.
The alert will come into effect from 5pm this afternoon, Sunday, and it will remain in force through to 3am tomorrow morning, Monday.
It comes following the end of a prior weather warning for strong gusty winds through Storm Elin, which brought down trees across the area.
Forecasters say further heavy rain is expected to bring some flooding and disruption to transport, with flooding of homes and businesses possible.
Bus and train services will probably affected, they add, with journey times taking longer, and spray and flooding on roads adding to journey times.
A Met Office spokesman said: “After a brief lull once morning rain clears from west to east across the area, further heavy rain or showers will develop Sunday evening, before clearing during the early hours of Monday.
“Many parts will see 15mm to 20mm, with the wettest spots seeing 30mm to 40mm. Given very wet ground, some impacts are likely.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
“Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly. When a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
