THE Journal received an email from New York City with this great old school team picture.
Thomas Mullarkey sent in this photograph from his school days at Leigh St Mary’s RC Secondary School.
It features the St Mary’s team ahead of a match with Manchester Road.
Thomas, who is third from the right in the front row, said: “While sitting in my apartment in NYC I came across this old school photo from 1962.
“The following year at the age of 16 I emigrated to America with ten pounds in my pocket and a lb of sliced boiled ham (given to me by my mam’s cousin who owned a grocery shop in Leigh).
“Needless to say it was immediately seized by customs upon my arrival at ‘Idlewild’ International Airport, now JFK!”
