At 7.40am this morning police were called by a member of the public to reports of a man driving a van dangerously in Ince and officers began a pursuit of the vehicle.
The chase culminated in the van overturning on Holden Road, Leigh.
During the dramatic pursuit, the van collided with, and damaged numerous vehicles. It was then stopped and rammed police vehicles, before making off.
Two police officers suffered injuries and had medical treatment at the scene.
Police say no members of the public were injured.
A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving, of driving without a licence, and of driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Police say inquiries are ongoing to identify a second man who they believe was in the van.
As many as six police vehicles and two fire engines were at the scene this morning as residents were left shocked by the dramatic scenes.
Jaz Green, who lives nearby, said that she looked out of the window of her home when she heard a "bang" and saw the vehicle on its side.
She said: "I’d just got up, I’m used to hearing sirens but then I heard a bang and was worried for the cars.
"So I went out to look through the window and saw it tip."
Jaz, who owns Shampooches Leigh, has been in touch with another resident who reported that the "same van has smashed into lots of other cars further down the road at Green Lane Chippy".
