A MAN charged following a pursuit in which police cars were rammed and a van overturned has made a first court appearance.  

The van tipped over on Holden Road, Leigh, following the chase which started in Ince.

At 7.40am on Saturday morning, April 20, police were called by a member of the public to reports of a man driving a van dangerously in Ince and officers began a pursuit of the vehicle.

The chase culminated in the van overturning on Holden Road, Leigh.

During the dramatic pursuit, it is alleged the van collided with and damaged numerous vehicles. It was then stopped and rammed police vehicles, before making off, officers said.

Two police officers suffered injuries and had medical treatment at the scene.

Police said no members of the public were injured.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving, of driving without a licence, and of driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Nathan Price, 32, of Keswick Place, Ince, has been charged with three counts of attempted grievous bodily harm, four counts of criminal damage, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance in connection with the incident.

Price appeared before Manchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, April 22.

The case was sent to Bolton Crown Court where the 32-year-old will next appear to issue his pleas to the charges on Friday, May 24.

He has been remanded into custody until then.
