A GROUP of compassionate schoolkids walked for an incredible 11 hours in honour of people with dementia.

With Will Entwistle witnessing his auntie suffering with Alzheimer's, he had long wanted to do something extraordinary in her honour.

After seeing others complete gruelling challenges for charity, Will and three friends decided to take on their own marathon event for 'Dancing with Dementia'.

Along with Ella Worthington, Rhianne Robinson, and Izzie Walshaw, Will walked from Mosley Common to Heaton Park in Manchester, and onto Salford University to complete their 26.2 mile target.

Setting off at around 5am, the Fred Longworth and St Mary's pupils walked for around 11 hours and 22 minutes and were supported by several local businesses and community groups to help push them over the line.

Taking on the challenge for Dancing with Dementia - a Salford-based charity that supports dementia sufferers with music and dancing - the group raised more than £1,500 for the charity.

Jeanette Cutt, one of the leaders at Dancing with Dementia, said: "We all think it is amazing what they have achieved, and I don't think they realise what an achievement this is.

"We had family dropping off food and local businesses donated food and water to support them, but they all just seemed to take it in their stride.

"We're over the moon with them, young people can get some bad press at times so we think it is important to celebrate their achievements."
