A MAN has been charged with shining a laser beam towards a police helicopter.
The charge relates to an incident on November 12 last year.
Graham Liptrot, of Knowsley Avenue in Golborne, has been charged with shining or directing a laser beam towards an aircraft.
He also faces a charge of possessing a class B controlled drug, namely cannabis.
The former charge alleges that the 39-year-old, on November 15 last year, shone or directed a laser beam towards a moving National Police Air Service helicopter.
The charge further alleges that he did so without reasonable excuse, and that the laser beam dazzled or distracted the captain in control of the helicopter.
Liptrot made a first appearance in relation to the charges before Wigan Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Monday.
Here, he indicated a guilty plea to the cannabis charge, but pleaded not guilty to the laser charge.
