TRIBUTES have been paid to a pilot who died in a motorway crash.
Jamie Fernandes was killed in the crash on the M62 - between Rainhill and Burtonwood - alongside fellow Ryanair pilot, Matt Greenhalgh.
Today a tribute was paid to Jamie, 24, remembering his time at Bolton School in Greater Manchester.
A statement posted on Bolton School - Old Boys and Old Girls (Official) Facebook Page read: "We are very sad to hear the news of the tragic death of our Old Boy Jamie Fernandes this week.
"A keen hockey player while at school and we were pleased to see him realise his ambition to be a pilot. Our thoughts are with his family and all his friends.
"If @BoltonSchAlumni find it helpful to share memories here we will collate those for the family. If you wish to less publicly then do email development@boltonschool.org.uk."
Jamie studied mathematics with statistics, English language and geography for his A-levels, before going on to study air transport management with airline pilot training at Buckinghamshire New University.
Matt, 28, was a Captain and Jamie a Senior First Officer for Ryanair. They were travelling to Liverpool Airport in a taxi when the crash occurred just after 5.30am.
The car was in collision with two lorries on the westbound carriageway between junction 8 and junction 7.
The two men died at the scene. Their families are being supported by specialist officers.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital.
The driver of one of the two lorries, a 61-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Many have left tributes to Jamie on social media.
Ishan Patel wrote: "Jamie, you were not only my best mate but my brother. I can’t believe you were taken away from me.
"You were full of life and happiness. You were such a hard worker and always cared for others.
"I spoke to you and arranged for you to come to mine next month, and now it will never happen.
"You have always rooted for me, always called me to check up, and I will never get that back. I will miss you forever, my brother. I hope you’re resting in peace.
"My heart is broken. You were a good man. Your last words on Saturday were, “I’ll see you soon, Goose.” I hope one day we will meet again, Goose. Love you and rest in peace."
Michelle Orrell posted: "Jamie Fernandes you came into our lives for a short time with a good soul & a kind heart.
"Destroying to read the news, too young to leave us with such an exciting life ahead of you.
"Rest in peace our thoughts are with the family at this time."
Jayne Smith from Ryanair posted: "Absolutely devastating R.I.P Matthew Greenhalgh and Jamie Fernandes fly high boys XXXX."
