Fans’ favourite Edwin Ipape will miss Leigh’s hosting of bottom of the table London Broncos on Friday night through suspension.

But head coach Adrian Lam says the popular hooker’s absence will be an opportunity to reset for his Papua New Guinean compatriot.

Ipape received a one game ban for a grade B dangerous contact in last Saturday’s 20-16 win over Huddersfield Giants. Brad Dwyer-should he shake off flu symptoms-will most likely deputise in the starting 13.

“We will miss him a lot,” confirmed Lam, also without Aaron Pene after his recent signing failed a head impact assessment post Giants’ fixture.

“Once Edwin came back (from injury) we went up a level as a team. But he probably needs a break too,” confirmed Lam.

“He has been a bit reckless with some of his actions. So, we have got to get that right with him and he will be back against Saints the following week.”

Broncos have won only one of their 17 Super League games this year but have pushed Leeds and Castleford close in recent weeks.

“They have found a bit of a rhythm though they are not winning,” added Lam. “So, you have got to have the right attitude because they are a team playing with confidence.

“If you are not quite there physically and with the right attitude it becomes a hell fight.

We don’t want to be in that position.

“We have earned the right in the last two weeks to go into this game with a lot of confidence and play our style.

“It gives us another opportunity to get our game right. We have made a few errors and our discipline hasn’t been quite right. If we can adjust and get those things right we can take the next step up as a team.

“But I am happy where we are at. We are in a good position in the sense of our work rate and our work ethic.”

Winger Josh Charnley could return after missing the Huddersfield victory with a rib injury. But Charnley’s replacement, Darnell McIntosh, staked his claim for an extended run with an impressive try scoring home debut.

*Ed Chamberlain has joined Hull FC on loan for the remainder of the season prior to taking up a three-year contract with the Black and Whites from 2025.

*Leopards women scored five tries during their top of the table 30-6 win over second placed Sheffield Eagles. Kate Howard, Keira McCosh, Storm Cobain, Grace Hill and Mollie Young touched down while Charlotte Melvin kicked five goals.

On Sunday, Leopards take their unbeaten run to Dewsbury Moor, kick-off 2pm.

*Leopards’ reserves came from 10-0 down at half-time to beat Huddersfield Giants 26-10, inspired by captain Craig Fairhurst. Fairhurst notched a try and kicked five goals with further tries from Alfie Whittle, Tane Kane Bentley and Barrow loanee Delaine Bedward.
