A MAN was rushed to hospital following a collision between a car and cyclist in Leigh.

Emergency services responded to an incident on St Helens Road, close to Leigh fire station, at around 4.20pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday, July 18).

It was reported that the collision involved a vehicle and a cyclist, and police closed the road in both directions while they dealt with the incident, which caused traffic congestion and bus diversions.

Police have confirmed that a man was taken to hospital for hi injuries following the incident, although they are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 4.20pm on Thursday, July 18, officers responded to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on St Helen’s Road, Leigh.

"One man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries."
