Head coach Adrian Lam has issued a rallying cry to Leigh fans ahead of a “massive game” against out of form St Helens on Friday night.

Leopards entertain a Saints side bidding to avoid a fifth successive defeat and with pressure mounting on Lam’s opposite number, Paul Wellens.

With virtually his strongest squad to select from the Leigh chief is keen to maximise every advantage to ensure his team remain firmly in the play-off race.

“Our fans have been awesome all year and we are looking forward to them filling the stadium,” said Lam.

“If there are any umming or ahhing, get down here because it is going to be one of the games of the season.

“It will be a bash-up between two teams that are going to set rugby league alight to lead the weekend off. So, get out and support us if you can.”

Matt Moylan, Edwin Ipape and Aaron Pene all return to the squad after missing last Friday’s 36-6 win over London Broncos through injury and suspension.

Ricky Leutele has been fined £250 but avoided a ban after receiving a grade B dangerous contact charge for an incident against Broncos.

“Saints have the ability and the talent to bounce back and respond straight away,” insisted Lam. “They will come here wanting to get back on track.

“It is a massive game for us, probably the biggest of the year for the Leopards and I hope that is reflected in our performance.”

There’s no love lost between the clubs stemming from the fallout after Leigh’s Challenge Cup semi-final victory over Saints just over 12 months ago.

And both clubs were hit with suspended fines stemming from the match at the Totally Wicked Stadium on March 1.

Saints, as a club, and Leopards’ Ste Maden were each fined £1,000-suspended until the end of 2025-for Operational Rules breaches.

“I know there has been some bad blood but both teams and both clubs are very passionate,” said Lam. “We need to win, they need to win and I am sure it will be an absolute cracker.”

Lam’s son, Lachlan, who produced a starring role on his 100th career appearance against Broncos, has been touted as Hull FC’s latest recruit from the Leopards for next season.

Leigh’s women’s championship team made it 12 wins out of 12 with a five-try, 26-0 success at Dewsbury Moor. Becky Greenfield, Storm Cobain, Kate Howard, Claire Mullaney and Freya Turner scored the tries with Charlotte Melvin kicking three goals.

Leigh’s next game is against Castleford at Twist Lane on August 4, kick-off 2pm.
