LEIGH Harriers Athletic Club’s Lewis Forster has followed in the footsteps of his dad and coach Simon to become the U20s English National Javelin Champion.
The 18-year-old Harriers thrower secured the title at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on 21 July.
Starting out with a throw of 59.06m in the first round which put him in second position behind friend and rival Ben Jones with 59.27m.
Forster stayed in the second place position right through until the sixth and final round of throws.
Forster’s final throw sailed over the officials' heads and landed close to his personal best, measuring 59.62m, 33cm ahead of Jones, putting him in the gold medal position.
Jones was yet to take his last throw, but his rival’s last attempt fell short making Forster the U20s 2024 English National Champion.
Ironically, this achievement comes 32 years after his dad and coach, Simon Forster, did the exact same thing in London in 1992.
