A SPECIAL anniversary service is taking place at Howe Bridge Crematorium this month to commemorate 25 years of service to the bereaved in the surrounding communities.

The event is taking place on Saturday, September 28 from 11am, with an open invitation to anyone to attend.

The event is free, but booking is essential, and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served, basis.

As part of the 25th anniversary commemorations, there are plans to bury a time capsule with the crematorium’s grounds, and members of the local community are being invited to suggest ideas for what to include in it, by using the same contact details.

Howe Bridge Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Westerleigh Group prides itself on providing exceptional care to the bereaved, the standards of which are inspected by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA) in England and Wales and the Scottish Government.

Howe Bridge Crematorium manager Lindsey Edwardson said: “The anniversary service is open to anyone we’ve served during the quarter-of-a-century we’ve been open and anyone else who would like to attend.

“We are also hoping to see some funeral directors, celebrants, florists and charities who have had contact with us over the years to join us for our commemoration.

"If they wish, of course, visitors are welcome to make use of our Letters to Heaven memorial post box, to leave messages or cards for loved ones they have lost.

“We also hope local people will be inspired by the idea of us burying a time capsule within our grounds, and are appealing to them to send us ideas of items that we might put into it, for future generations to discover. Please contact us with any suggestions.

“I’m really looking forward to see what kind of suggestions local people come up with.”

She added: “We are very proud of the exceptional care we have provided to the bereaved locally for the past 25 years and are determined to continue to help provide uniquely personal services in honour of their loved ones for many years to come.

“I look forward to welcoming many members of our local communities to our special service in September. Do please reserve your seat to join us for a very special celebration.”
