LEIGH Leopards head coach Adrian Lam expects his side's Betfred Super League play-off bid go down to the final game of the regular season.
Lam's in-form side made it nine wins from 10 matches with a comprehensive 34-12 win at Castleford to lift them up to fourth place in the table.
The Leopards, whose final two games are both at home against Hull KR next Friday and St Helens on September 20, produced a dominant display to maintain their charge for a top-six finish.
Lam said: "I've just been told we sit fourth currently. We're just grateful. It's been a long, difficult season, but the way we have played the last 12 weeks has been outstanding.
"It's a real credit to the players, sticking together. Nothing's guaranteed. We've still got two games to go and anything can happen there.
"It looks like it's going to come down to the last game, so I'm just pleased we've put ourselves in a position to give it a crack."
Leigh skipper Tom Amone touched down twice and the visitors ran in four more tries through winger Josh Charnley - on his 300th Super League appearance - Kai O'Donnell, Gareth O'Brien and Ricky Leutele, while full-back Matt Moylan landed five out of six conversion attempts.
It was a disappointing send-off for Castleford's co-captain Paul McShane in his final home game for the club after he announced this week that he will retire at the end of the season.
Lam said: "I'm pretty happy. It's always a difficult place to come to and we knew they were going to be emotionally connected tonight as well with 'Shane' leaving and it being his last home game.
"It was a tough start, with end-to-end rugby and we went 12 sets where we completed, so that showed me we were here to play."
When asked if he feels his side will need to win both their last games, Lam added: "I'm not sure, but what I do know is we'll take every day as it comes and focus on Hull KR for this week and nothing else."
On Leigh's play-off chances, Castleford's Craig Lingard said: "I said several weeks ago when people said it would be difficult for them, that if they could get fifth or sixth, then I think they can go all the way and win it. They're that good."
