RESIDENTS have been temporarily evacuated from their homes after a car crashed into a house last night in Leigh.

At around 10.15pm on Wednesday, September 11, police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Manchester Road in Leigh.

On arrival, officers found that a vehicle had crashed into a house on the corner of Manchester Road and Bangor Fold.

Police say that no injuries have been reported, but the collision has left some structural damage on the house.

A police scene was also in place last night which caused delays for some motorists, while residents were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 10.15pm, we were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a vehicle and a house on Manchester Road in Leigh.

"No injuries have been reported to us, but there has been some structural damage to the house.

"Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and representatives from the gas board are at the scene to conduct initial checks.

"A number of residents in the surrounding houses have been temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

"A scene remains in place with some disruption to the area with road closures in place along Manchester Road in Leigh, the road will be reopened shortly and we thank the public for their patience."

Police have also confirmed that no arrests have been made as yet, with enquiries into the incident ongoing.
