THE people of Leigh are being invited to share their thoughts on future improvements at Civic Square.
As previously reported by the Journal, improvements to Civic Square is one project involved in the £11.4m Levelling Up plans for Leigh town centre.
The Levelling Up project also includes plans to enhance shop fronts throughout the town centre and revamp Leigh Market, with the council recently stating that "extremely good progress" is being made in the preliminary stages of the plans.
With aims to improve the paving, planting, trees, seats, and spaces outside the Town Hall, and make the space a prominent place for community events, the council is asking residents to share their thoughts to help shape the Civic Square plans.
This project is separate to the £20m Towns Deal investment, which will be spent on projects over a ten-year period.

Councillor David Molyneux MBE, Leader of Wigan Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for Leigh Civic Square and we want to hear your views; from materials, planting, lighting and the type of activities you would like to see on the new square.
“This is just one part of the wider Leigh Regeneration Project.
“Following a successful bid for over £11m in government funding, this is set to deliver on three key priorities; the refurbishment of Leigh Market, a shopfront and building grant scheme, and improvements to Civic Square and the Market Street corridor.”
Everyone can have their say on the ideas so far by visiting the council's website here, or by coming along to a drop-in session at Leigh Library on Thursday, September 19 or Tuesday, October 1.
The survey closes on Sunday 6 October, while consultation on other elements of the Levelling Up bid, including the Market Street corridor and the refurbishment of Leigh Market will follow in the coming months.
