DESPITE the various challenges in the hospitality industry, one establishment continues to be known as one of the most popular eateries in Leigh.
With owners saying that Green Lane Chippy has served Leythers for around 100 years, the business has clearly stood the test of time as countless customers have filled up on the business' mouth-watering fish and chip options.
And as all successful businesses do, the Holden Road chippy has evolved over the years, with owners Paul and Andy Georgiou expanding the chippy to provide inside seating, a wider menu, and an alcohol licence.
This expansion has helped to sustain the family business over the years, but as the business' abundance of awards highlights, the chippy never falters on quality.

With a commitment to high-quality grub, Green Lane Chippy has consistently won 'Good Food' awards since the Georgiou family took over the business back in 2006, which recognises it as one of the best independent eateries across the country.
Notching award wins for more than a decade, the business has also been recognised in several 'Award Winning Food' lists of best chippies, and was named Holland's Pies North West 'Chippy of the Year' back in 2012 and 2013.
And while many of these awards have come from independent judges, Leythers clearly love the chippy too as it is consistently rated as the town's top-rated restaurant on Trip Advisor.
While these award wins make the Georgiou family and the wider Green Lane team "very proud", the owners admit that it has been a challenging time for the business after the crises of Brexit, covid, and cost of living crisis.
"Everything is very expensive now, and although we try to keep our prices as low as we can, our overheads are through the roof", Paul said.
"Things have been more and more challenging recently. The government have killed the hospitality industry and people just don't have the extra money.
"Every year brings a new challenge but we will survive as long as we can, as lots of customers have become friends and regulars here.
"We don't put ourselves forward for the awards but they do make us very proud, and they are backed up by our customers who continue to come back to us."
