LEIGH Leopards have launched an investigation into crowd behaviour following the play-off semi-final against Wigan.

After a impressively strong finish to the season, Leigh's Grand Final dreams were shattered with a 38-0 loss to the reigning Super League champions on Saturday, October 5.

Although the sold-out derby match started with a terrific atmosphere, there have been complaints regarding some Leopards' fans conduct at the Brick Community Stadium.

Taking to social media to express her "anger and disappointment", Bethany Danielle Sammut said that her eight-year-old son was left "terrified" while watching his team play their biggest match of the season.

After trying to move from their seats, Bethany said that a second flare was thrown and narrowly missed her son by inches.

With Oscar "screaming and crying and hitting out trying to leave", a security member is said to have tried to reassure the family and find space for them in another stand, but the terrified eight-year-old was adamant that he wanted to leave the ground because he didn't feel safe.

While Bethany thanked the fan who also tried to reassure Oscar and calm him down, she called out the fans whose actions resulted in ruining the experience for her season-ticket holding son, who now says he does not want to go to another rugby game.

Following Bethany's social media post, dozens of Leythers commented to wish Oscar well and condemn the actions of some sections of Leopards fans.

Some fans said they had a similar experience with young family members being upset by flares thrown in their direction.

Following these reports, the Leopards have released a public statement stating that the club is investigating the matter.

The statement reads: "Further to complaints received from our supporters concerning crowd behaviour, we will be undertaking an investigation around these behaviours.

"We would ask anyone with any information or videos to provide these in confidence to enquiries@leighrl.co.uk.

"Anyone found to have breached the code of conduct of Leigh Leopards, Wigan Warriors and the RFL will be dealt with accordingly.

"As a club Leigh Leopards will not tolerate anti-social behaviour."
