The incident sparked understandable concern in the community as it was not immediately clear how the man came to suffer his injuries.
After receiving information from Greater Manchester Police, councillors from the Leigh West ward have clarified that the incident was a "medical episode" and not in relation to an attack or assault.
The councillors said: "We want to clarify that the recent situation in Leigh was NOT related to any violent attack or assault. There is no threat to safety in the area, and response times for any serious incidents remain within GMP targets.
"The incident was a medical episode, and the individual involved is now in the hospital, recovering. The injuries he sustained are historic and not connected to this event.
"We wish him a full and speedy recovery."
In a statement handed out over the weekend, Greater Manchester Police said: "Yesterday evening officers attended a report of an unconscious man at Leigh bus station. The man was placed in an induced coma and taken to hospital, where he remains.
"His injuries are deemed to be life-threatening. A scene is in place this morning and the matter is currently being investigated by officers from our CID team.
