AN off-road bike has been seized and its driver reported after a series of reported offences in Leigh.

Illegal off-road biking and anti-social behaviour has been a common problem reported in Leigh in recent months, with 'Operation Handbrake' launched earlier in the year to tackle this.

The operation has led to several prosecutions and seizures of off-road bikes, while a specialist approach using police planes has also targeted and located off-road bikers this year.

However, reports of illegal off-road bike usage has persisted around Leigh and neighbourhood police officers reported a driver for several driving offences this week.

The driver was reported after reports of the bike causing issues around Alderley Lane and Butt Street in Leigh.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Officer from the Leigh East Neighbourhood Team, have been out today targeting ASB, from the use of off road bikes. We received regular reports regarding these bikes being used inappropriately and inconsiderately.

"Rest assured that your local neighbourhood teams take your concerns seriously and will endeavour to tackle this kind of behaviour.

"The bike pictured has been reportedly causing issues in the Leigh South area, namely Alderley Lane and Butt Street.

"Today the rider was stopped riding down Rossall Crescent, his vehicle seized and he was reported for summons for several driving offences."
