A COMMUNITY pub has backed a regular's fundraising project for a hospice that is cherished right across the borough.

Well known for her charitable efforts, Kerry Beaumont has liaised with community groups and local businesses to raise around £40,000 for Wigan and Leigh Hospice over the past ten years.

A hospice nurse, Kerry is aware how much the end-of-life hospice has been in need of funds in recent years, with pressures from the pandemic, cost of living crisis and a drop in donations leading to a reported deficit of £1million.

Following Kerry's dedicated fundraising efforts, she was nominated by Leythers and customers at the Canal Turn pub, as part of Proper Pubs' 'Community Hero' initiative.

Awarding £1,000 to residents who have been nominated for their selfless acts, Kerry was selected by the brewery following her nominations, and she confirmed that she will direct these extra funds to Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Bellway, which is currently building two new residential developments with Moss Bank Gardens on Hooten Lane in Leigh, and Trilogy on Mosley Common Road in Mosley Common, will offer a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The housebuilder has pledged to support the hospice over the next two to three years while the developments are completed, and will also sponsor one of the hospice's Christmas trees, which will be unveiled in the run-up to the festive season.
