Pubs in Leigh, Hindley, and Atherton are spreading Christmas cheer with a new initiative.
The Canal Turn and Hilton Park pubs in Leigh, the Market Tavern and the Ellesmere in Hindley, and the Punchbowl and Weavers Rest in Atherton, are inviting customers to write cards to people facing loneliness this Christmas.
Starting November 15, pubs are encouraging patrons to pen a festive message to someone in local hospitals, nursing homes, or community groups.
These messages can be addressed to any of the establishments on a list provided by the pubs.
The cards will then be delivered by the pubs on December 15, just in time for the festive season.
The Proper Pubs initiative aims to bring joy and connection to individuals who might find themselves alone this Christmas.
A recent study by think-tank Localis highlights the importance of pubs in local communities, with 68 per cent of British adults believing that pubs play a crucial role in combating loneliness.
This initiative is part of Proper Pubs, a community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns.
The division operates more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland, and Wales.
Over the past two years, Proper Pubs has donated nearly 40,000 Christmas selection boxes to local charities, with many more expected to be donated this year thanks to community generosity.
This initiative follows a long tradition of pubs supporting their local communities.
In rural areas, pubs often serve as vital community hubs, offering essential services and acting as a safe space to alleviate isolation.
The Christmas card initiative is the latest example of how pubs continue to support their communities and bring people together.
